Who we are, what we do

The current model of general practice is no longer sustainable and as a result practices need to work on providing services “at scale” to realise the benefits of economies of scale, improve opportunities for career structures and professional support and deliver a wider range of services.

The emergence of GP Federations nationally and locally presents significant opportunities for local challenges to be met.

The establishment of a GP Federation in ELR was discussed locally since the summer of 2015 and subsequently, through extensive engagement, GP Practices explored how a GP Federation may support them to deliver sustainable primary care in the future.

Engagement resulted in all thirty-two practices firmly committing to be part of ELR GP Federation, creating a solid foundation and overwhelming support for the challenges that lie ahead.

An ELR GP Federation Working Group and Steering Group comprising of GPs and Practice/Business Managers representatives from each Locality worked hard to produce and promote a vision for an ELR GP Federation.

The outcome of this work was a three year Business Plan which supported the Federation to become operational with effect from 1 April 2016.

This website and our associated social media and digital channels tells you all you need to know about the Federation and how you can keep yourself updated and engaged with what we do.
